More smog clouded the air around Judis and he realized that unless he thought of something quickly he would lose this battle. E coughed harshly, doubling over as he did so and he saw as he did that while the smog above uis head was thick, the smog near his paws was not nearly as thick.
Uis tail wagging rapidly he dropled into a crouch, narrowing his eyes and sniffing the air. It was still thick with toxic gas, and he could feel his body weakening from the poison coursing through uis veins, but he felt anwave of hope as he again caught Chris' scent. Closing his eyes and relying entirely on his nose he sniffed through the smoke as quickly as he could wuile still following the weak trail. Asnit got stronger the smog did too as it settled closer to the ground and he thought apprehensively that if he did not find her before he lost the scent, he was beat.
He unknowingly came to the very edge of the smog cloud and stood, openning his eyes. The growlithe had jo idea if he was close enough to attack or not, but he felt he had no choice but to try. Bunching up all his muscles, he suot forward in a Reversal attack pointing in the direction that his opponent's scent led.
Don and Victoria both leaned forward as smog reblanketed the feild. The tiny Vulpix coughed once as the toxic gas drifted her way but she did not even seem to notice it herself as her eyes scanned the feild for the Growlithe. Don waited expectantly for Judis to emerge as he saw his daughter leap out of the smog. He believed that even in the heavy gas the Growlithe would be able to track ber; he had the strongest nose of any Pokémon he knew.
"Okay, okay," Note said, smiling at her warmly. "I promise. I won't leave you..."

Chris waited paitently as she slowly stepped farther and farther away from the Smog. She didn't want him to catch her scent; it would be a lot easier on his part if he managed to! Much to her dismay, with her piercing eyes she was able to detect movement in the cloud. Shaking with anticipation, she began to run circles around the Smog, wanting to trap and confuse him for as long as she could.
Just as she was running pass, the tail of her tip was singed by a Reversal attack. The canine almost hurled, but made sure not to whimper if she would give away her location. Much more weakly now, she flopped around the battle course, hoping he wouldn't land another shot. If that happened, it would be over.
Brook got onto her paws as her daughter's leg and tail were buffeted with a Reversal. "Confound that demonic Growlithe..!" she snarled, flexing her claws. "If he wins, I want to battle him myself and see what he's got!" she challenged, all the fur on her back and neck bristling.
Ellie let go of her embrace, sliding him gently back onto the pillow of the couch. She held onto his wrist though, a smile that showed how much she believed him shining through her reddened face. "Thank you..." Her blush deepened when she realized how silly she was being...

Judis landed on all fours, sides heaving. His nose working, he realized that Chris had done well to cover her trail; the circles and erratic patterns she had run confuddled him. His tail swishing more slowly now he picked a part of the scent trail and began following it as fast as he could. He was weakening quickly, but that would mean his Reversal attack was getting much stronger. If he could just hit Chris one more time...
Victoria started in surprise at Brook's outburst and glanced at her apprehensively, but Don't tail lightly patted her head in a gesture of consolence. "She'll never learn anything if she faces opponents below her," the Houndoom said defensovely to the wolf Pokémon beside him, his red eyes glinting. "Judis is a good match for her. And not for you."
Note returned her smile, his eyes shining.
There was a knock on the door, and then it opened. A tall slender woman with a briefcase in one hand and a Pokéball in the other poked her head inside and called, "Hello? Is this the Surge residence?"

Chris began to tire, and halted, another plan forming in her jostling mind. Quickly, she began to use Double Team to circle the Smog instead of running around is like a lunatic. Hopefully, his good sense of smell would overpower him when all he could smell was at least three dozen copies of herself and the thick, poisonous Smog.
Brook whirled and snapped at the Houndoom, her bared fangs only a few inches from his face. "It's not about who goes home with the prize, you knucklehead! The only way he can be victorious is if my Chris faints. She's an adolescent, and she hasn't fainted since she learned that Erol wasn't her father," she snarled. The motherly side of the proud Mightyena was finally approaching the wolf's exterior. "I know she's strong and she can handle herself, but you can imagine how painful it is for the Pokémon that actually raised her to see her get hurt in battle," she sneered venomously.
Ellie savored that smile of his, but she was quickly jostled back into reality by a slender woman at the door. "Y-Yes! It is. I'm Eleanor Surge," she quickly introduced herself, rushing up to the woman and reaching to shake her hand. "Lt. Surge's eldest daughter."

The copies did exactly what Chris had thought they would. The poisoned Growlithe found himself overwhelmed when there were suddenly three dozen scents to follow, all of the same Pokémon. He stumbled back, grimacing as he tried to figure out what to do. There was no way he could keep attacking all these copies....
His tail went up as he had an idea and he took in a breat breath. Then while he faced the scent of the copies he let out a booming Roar. The hope was that at least most of the copies would be elliminated, but he had jo idea if it would work.
Donetello stared down at the Mightyena, stunned. For a moment he did noy know what to say; of course Brook cared for her daughter, but he had not thought her the protective type. He was dumbfounded for a long moment. And then he said, "I can call off the battle." But his words were nearly drowned out by Judis' Roar.
"Doctor _____ said there was a Pokémon that needed help here," she said quickly. "I'm Dr. Pretz."
From where he laid on the bed Note tilted his head back to watch the two.

Chris held back a gasp of surprise at the Growlithe's mighty roar. She watched as a few of her clones were eliminated. She would have to use another Double Team to create a new batch, but already so much of her energy was drained. She clenched her teeth as she forced at least half a dozen to take the place of those that had been destroyed. Come on! Just a bit longer! I can feel his energy slipping away... But... my energy is just about to go, too...
Brook was about to retort something else when a loud Roar drowned out her boyfriend's words. Her attention now back to the battle grounds, she stared like a hawk at prey as she watched her daughter force out a few more copies. "Come on, Chris, baby! You can do it!"
"Y-yes! Her name is Vivian, and she's right this way. Thank you so much for coming, she took a bullet to her chest and though she's strong, I'm afraid that she was really hurt this time," she blabbered as she guided the woman towards the hybrid, but not without one last glance at Note that promised her return.

Judis' head was spinning as he realized how little his attack had actually done. He shook his head, determined, and triec again: the growlithe planted hix paws, sucked in a massive breath, and let out a Roar nearly twice as loud as the first.
Don jumped at the noise, but seeing Broom's gaze turn from him he too turned back to the battlefeild. He saw that at this rate Chris and Judis were weakening at the same pace, and he honestly did jot know which one would faint first. His fur pridkled as he waited to see how this fight played out.
Note smiled a little bit as he sawEllie looking at her, and he waved calmly before she disappeared around the side of the wall. By then the morphine was not nearly as effective, and his chest was starting to tingle.
Vivian's ears twitched as she heard the two uumans approaching. A low growl rose in her throat as she saw the unfamiliar woman, who frowned in concern as the small pool of blood that hadnformed under the injured mutant. "Oh, oh my," she said, concerned. "She's not a friendly Pokémon in general, is she, dear?" She asked Ellie, though her eyes remained on Vivian.

Chris was nearly sent back along with her clones as the flame Pokémon let out a Roar much louder than his former. The Houndour didn't have enough energy to recreate any more copies of herself, so she spread out the clones she still had and just made them move around to attract attention. She tried to think about the moves she knew and which of them would come in handy at a time like this...
Something lingered in the back of her mind, though... A move that she hadn't used since she learned it. She didn't really know how it worked, completely, but it was worth a shot. Chris calmed herself and used Attract, a bubbly, pink heart seeking out the Growlithe and plopping on his head. The Houndour braced herself for the reaction.
The battle was close, that much she knew. Brook continued to knead the ground like a cat as anticipation coursed through her veins. Both looked like they were on the verge of wiping out, even though she couldn't see Judis as clearly as her daughter.
Ellie shook her head. "Err... we think she had a tough childhood... or something like that...," she murmured quietly, nervously grabbing her arm. "I don't know if she likes me too much, but I can try to get her to let you help her... or! Better yet..." the trainer reached for her belt and pulled out a certain Umbreon's Pokéball, releasing him next to the injured hybrid.
Angelo blinked open startled scarlet eyes as he noticed EV's gunwound. "Wha... Holy shit, EV!" he gasped, ears erect. He looked wildly at Ellie, seeking an answer to what the hell had happened to his best friend.
The blonde knealt down beside the dark fox and stroked his head. "I need you to get Vivian to let the nurse help with her bulletwound. It looks really bad, and the sooner it's treated, the better," she whispered, looking deeply into her Pokémon's crimson eyes. He nodded, as if tranced.
The Umbreon turned to EV, sure she had just heard the exchange between him and his Trainer and looked at her with pleading eyes.

Judis' head whipped back and forth as the clones ran in and out of his periferal vision. This time he saw the attack work and his tail started wagging again.
The sight of something much brighter and pinker made his head whiip around, and uis eyes widened as the heart popped and bubbled over his forehead. With a surprised yelp he reared back and then fell. For a moment he stayed down; but then he rose, wobbling dazedly on uis paws with a rediculous goofy smile spread across his face.
His eyes widened in adiration as theyblocked on one of the houndour hybrid's forms, and he ran toward the clone- or the real Chris, he had no way of knowing -with a dazed gait. His speed and strength inevitably made his approach into a weak tackle as he threw himself at her, lying where he landed on top of her. His tail swishing rythmjcally he ran his tongue along her cheek in a love-drunk gesture.
Victoria jumped to her paws in surprise, and Donetello tried to keep the amused sparkle out of his eye.
"I'm fine," EV growled lowly, far too proud to admit that the only thing she wanted to do at the moment was cry in pain. She did not meet ghe Umbreon's eyes; she hated feeling weak, and when it came down to it she was ashamed to be ashamed. All she wanted to do was handle this on her own.
Dr. Pretz drummed her fingers gently against the Pokéball in her right hand, watching the two with concerned hazel eyes. She nodded to Ellie. "I'll take care then," she said, pocketing the Pokéball and kneeling. For the moment she was sure that she could not touch the Pokémon, but maybe she could get an idea of what she was dealing with from where she knelt.

Chris watched in amusement as the Growlithe glomped one of her copies, who looked super confused before vanishing under the orange canine. Seeing her chance, the Houndour rushed toward the fire dog, mud beginning to swirl around her paws as she lunged for the canine, aiming to use another Mudslap in an attempt to finish him off.
Brook's tail began to wide. With that stupid mutt infatuated with her gorgeous spawn, Chris had the upper paw!
"Come on, EV, don't be stupid," he said, staring down the hybrid with an unimpressed stare. "You have a fucking bullet in your chest. You're not okay. The only one who doesn't seem to know that is you," the fox said sternly, his crimson eyes burning into her fur. "Come on, all they want to do is get that sucker out of your skin," he said, more airily this time. "I promise."

As the clone disappeared under him Judis jumped up, still dazed. He turned to face Chris, and when he saw her coming toward her he ran to meet her. They collided, and Judis took the force of the Mudlsap attack to his chest as he tackled the Houndour to the ground. He colapsed on tol of her, his tail wagging weakly.
Don jumped to his paws as he saw a column of mud explode where the two met, and then their muddied forms layered on the ground. He stood, rigid, as he waited to see if his daughter was still conscious. Shuffling nervously on his paws he finally barked, "Judis! Off!" With his size and build he did jot doubt that the Growlithe weighed as much as Chris, if not more.
The Growlithe's floppy ears perked at the sound of the elder canine's voice, and he stood and stumbled off the houndour. As he stared down at her the veil of attraction faded from them and he shook his head briskly to clear it. The movement sent the weak canine off his paws, and he flopped pitifully to the ground.
"It's not the first time I've been shot," the mutant muttered stubbornly, her pained eyes on the floor. But the pain was becoming too much for her. Her ears drooping in defeat, she looked at the doctor apprehensively, but willing to cooperate.
Dr. Pretz smiled a bit and slowly started toward her. The fur on her shoulders rose and she instinctively growled, baring her teeth at the woman, but the experienced vet showed no fear. She stroked her head gingerly and EV squeezed her eyes shut. Even after so much time around people she sttill flashed back to thenvicious beatingsnshe was given as an Eevee nearly every time she was touched by someone she did not fully trust; it took all she had not to turn and retreat into herself at the vet's touch, and her body trembled slightly with the effort.

Chris groaned, limbs spread out on the ground as she submitted to defeat. Deafening blackness enveloped the canine for the first time. She knew she wasn't dying, but it was still an unusual feeling as she felt her muscles relax and her concious fade. With her face in the ground, her unconcious body found difficulty breathing. Brook noticed this right away.
Eyes wide, the Mightyena rushed over to her daughter, ignoring the Smog as its remains slipped away into the air. "Chris!" she whined, licking the mud off of her daughter and hauling her face out of the mud by her scruff. She pulled the Houndour away from the purple fog and continued her grooming, sending ice cold glances at the other three Fire Types surrounding her. They could be so hotheaded and cruel!
"And that's not the first time I've heard you say that. Doesn't stop the fact that you're obviously in pain," he murmured, ears flattened while he back away, letting the woman get to work on his companion.

Don's eyes widened as he saw that his daughter was not breathing normally. He ran forward as Judis backed away, and as Victoria rushed to the Growlithe's side he colapsed on the ground, the poison finally taking the last of his consciousness. The Vulpix let out a yelp of surprise as he fell and stood by his side as Donetello trotted to his daughter.
He stopped a couple paces back as he saw that Brook had beaten him to it. Knowing there was nothing useful he could say he waited, victim to the worried Mightyena's cold gaze.
EV barely heard Angelo as thw vet continued to examine her. She began, unconsciously, to recede into herself, try to block out the pain and the shameful terror that she felt. The doctor, mistakenly thinking she had fainted, gingerly lifted her head to examine the bullet wound, which was completely hidden by her mane. She carefully parted the fur with her fingertips and as she found the entry wound she lightly touched it with her figer.
The mutant suddenly jumped back to life with a pained yelp and sunk her teeth into the doctor's wrist. The woman made no sound as she pulled awa her wrist bleeding, and EV curled into a ball, snarling threateningly. She was, in her mind, somewhere else and all that was her was raw terror and pain. The doctor saw that immediately and as she clutched her bleeding wrist she stood and took a xtep back, sighing but undefeated.

Brook turned around as she heard another thump on the ground. She noticed that the Growlithe had finally fainted. The wolf curled back her ebony lips. Serves that bastard right!
She noticed Don backing away a few steps and whirled to glare at him. What kind of boyfriend was he? He wasn't even trying to help their daughter! She narrowed her eyes at him, her expression the epitome of digust as she turned back to Chris and groomed her.
Angelo backed away as EV snapped at the human, his scarlet eyes wide with shock. He shook his head quickly though, as he remembered that this was EV they were dealing with. He really should have expected that to happen. He looked up at the vet pleadingly. Hopefully she wouldn't give up so fast.
Eleanor blinked, cupping her hand over her mouth. "Oh my Arceus! Do you need a bandage or a glass of water or--" the teen cut off, looking around frantically for something that would help the bitten vet. Ellie was surprised, though. She'd taken Vivian's bite well.

"Victoria," Don said evenly, his eyes still fixed on Brook, "go get some potions."
"Right!" The Vulpix gasped, turning and dashing away.
As she did Don looked over his shoulder at Judis; the Growlithe looked as bad as Chris, almost worse. He knew Brook was probably overreacting and he knew why she was. But he had never been one to get all sympathetic over something like a lost battle, especially when it was so close and there would be no perminant injuries. "Brook," he sighed, "she's going to be fine."
Dr. Pretz smilednat Ellie reassuringly. "I'm alright," she said, pulling her own bandage out of her bag and wrapping her hand. "Poor baby. I don't want to traumqtize he... would it be okay if I made her go to sleep?" She asked, looking at Ellie as she finished wrapping her hand.
