When it came to visual intimidation, Kimberly was obviously impervious to it, but she could sense her little brother getting antsy next to her. he reached out a little paw and papped his face in a vaguely comforting gesture, but a majority of her attention stayed on Chris. "Well, we noticed some thing. Everybody's been so busy!" she added, as if it was its own independent exclamation.

"That's fantastic." The tone of her voice did not match the statement even slightly. Arceus, where were Austin and Blitz? Hell, she'd even settle for Chance by this point; the canine did not know how to deal with children. Growing up, she was taught how to fight and how to deal with people who couldn't deal with her. Children were nowhere near her forte.

Kimberly pouted, dissatisfied with Chris' lack of curiosity. This was not how she expected things to go. "Yeah, yeah it is," she sighed. "Well, if you want to now what your friends have been up to, you should listen to us, cause it's interesting and we know. Come on, Ben." She wobbled, as if about to fall over, and then turned clumsily on her toes and tottered off in the other direction. After a couple steps she stopped to make sure the little feline was following her.

"What my friends have been up to?" she repeated, actually paying attention now. She let out a disgruntled huff, eyes darting around. "Why is it interesting?" she tried, moving a step towards them.
Ben, who had been trotting next to his sister, turned and smiled when the canine finally began to show interest. He nudged the Spinda in her direction.

Kimberly blinked, smiled, and spun around to face Chris again. "You want to know now?"

"Yes," she barked, after moments of silence and hesitation.

Delighted, the blind Spinda tottered back over to the older female and put her hands behind her back. "Well Austin's been reaally really busy," she began empirically. "He's awake almost every night, but Chance isn't anymore."

The canine's ears shot up at the mention of Austin. Busy... Busy how? She had stopped waking up at night to the noise of shuffling feet, and Austin no longer spoke of the... Her gaze hardened. "Busy how?"
Benjamin patted his sister's back with his tail. "You were running along the fence, weren't you?"

Kimberly nodded to her brother's inquiry. "He goes off the ranch by... By that side of the fence." She pointed in the general direction of the side of the fence that faced the Lake of Rage. "He comes back all happy and sometimes he's wet."

Chris' head whirled towards the fence, unable to fight the urge to curl his lip. She stared at the spot, nostrils flaring, before asking in a low rumble, "Are you sure..."
Benjamin nodded sweetly. "Mmhm! Leaves every night, comes back every morning!"

"I think he dug a hole," Kimberly mused, tapping her lip with one of her paws. "Anyway! I don't know if Chance knows he does that or not but Chance sleeps a lot but then is really really tired all day I guess, because then he tries to sleep all day. He's really distracted by something. But I don't know what." She shrugged.

A growl rumbled in her throat. She quickly made haste towards the fence, needing the solid evidence that her best friend was still sneaking around with that Vaporeon. Her adrenaline was pumping, so she got there faster than she had anticipated. And it was true. How had she missed it.
A sense of betrayal swirled around in her gut, and the hairs on her neck stood on end. He said he would stop.

Kimberly blinked as she heard the canine rush off. "She left. Where'd she go, Ben?"

Ben smiled and got onto his hind legs, patting the Spinda on the shoulder. "To the fence towards the Lake of Rage." Smoothing back the tuff of hair on his brow, he continued, "She's only a speck from here, but a really disgruntled speck."

Kimberly pursed her lips. "Well, I wasn't really done, but I guess we've said enough," she decided. "Let's go get something to eat. I'm hungry."
The corny cheerfulness that had swirled around Austin at the beginning of the month had dulled to a much more inconspicuous contentedness. Though he slept through the sunniest part of the day (which was something less noticeable without Chance missing him) he was awake at dawn and dusk, and as the sun set he found himself near the fountain. It had never particularly struck his interest past what was necessary to initially learn how to swim as a baby, but now preoccupied with certain aquatic thoughts he was giving it a look over.
