Chance noticed what Chris had done before Austin did. He kept him talking until they were far enough away from the stadium that Austin couldn't just double back and tell on them.
By then the streets around them were not so festive. The blocks were getting smaller and dirtier, and the cheerful chatter of the streets had faded. Austin suddenly looked around, startled. "[Chris... is this the way to the stadium?]" he asked.

Chris glanced behind her, flicking an ear. "[Yeah, of course it is,]" she barked back vaguely, not bothering to look over her shoulder. The place she had led the boys to was starting to look pretty slummy, which meant that the further they went, the more chance there was of being a real danger. The Houndyena was totally down for that.
As they progressed into what seemed like a crappy residential area, she noted the brick houses and broken windows, looking around with a keen and genuine interest. The city was way different from the ranch, and the shitty part of the city was even more foreign to her.

A kind of eerie quiet was slowly replacing the hum of the city. Austin fidgeted nervously, looking around for any signs of a stadium or a park. ""
"[Relax, Austin, it's fine,]" Chance said nonchalantly. He added, with a sneer, "[Chris would never lead us astray, would she?]"

Chris felt her muscles tense when she heard Chance's sly comment, lowering her head slightly. So he knew where she was going... Okay, so she felt kind of bad that she'd dragged Austin along with her -- she knew that despite having Vivian for a mother, he was still very much a softy, and really naive at that. But she noticed that neither of the Umbreon's parents were ever really drilling him, so it made sense. Even though it was odd because... well, he was Vivian's kid. She'd gotten a verbal lashing from the hybrid once or twice as a pup. But even then it was minor.
"[No...]" the mutant muttered, shooting the Espeon a look.

Chance's grin only widened. The dirty looks Chris shot him were priceless. Maybe he should spend less time arguing with her and more time irritating her. It was more fun.
Their back and forth didn't make Austin feel any better. He turned to his friend and tried more sincerely to comfort him. "[We're just having a little look at what's not worth our time. You had to be curious.]"
"[Well, I guess, but this really doesn't look worth seeing,]" Austin replied, looking around disapprovingly. He we all for an adventure as long as it meant no one got in trouble, but he didn't so much like being led astray. And this didn't seem worth it at all. If they were going to run around and have some fun, they could have at least picked a place that looked like it would actually be fun.

"[Sorry, Aus. I just want to see what's so "off limits" about it,]" she confessed, still looking around, intrigued. "[Then we'll go to the stadium and park, alright? I mean, all we need to do is take an alley way up that way to get back to the road the stadium was on... I think.]" She cared a great deal for her best friend, even though sometimes she didn't do too good a job of showing it. But along with her parents -- her mother especially, who forced it out of her -- she only ever actually apologised to Austin for her mistakes or deceit. She wiggled her pinkish-red nose, trying to pick up any unusual scents or something that would make this place exciting. She was more or less ignoring their pale purple companion by this point, however.

"[Couldn't we have just asked your dad?]" Austin muttered.
"[Well, yeah, but that would have been pretty boring,]" Chance pointed out. "[I'm sure there's something around here that'll be interest...]" He trailed off as the orb on his forehead and his eyes flashed. He stopped, stiffening.
Austin looked at him again, and when he saw the look on his face he stopped. He could tell by the look on his face that whatever was coming next was not good.

The mutant sighed and rolled her eyes, shaking her head. Part of being an adolescent meant going out and doing stupid thing and only getting lightly reprimanded for it. Maybe not so much from her mother, if she ended up getting in danger or putting the other two in, but hopefully that wouldn't happen. She was hoping for excitement, not broken bones.
Chris wasn't gifted with the tough exterior bone-like armour normal Houndour had. Where others had their skull-like helmet and bands on their back, Chris only had fur. The white hairs on her body were a little more coarse than the rest, but weren't going to protect her as from claws or teeth. But that was okay -- that was why mother had trained her so hard when she was little. Because her mother was an offense Pokémon, only bearing thick fur, large claws, and teeth, which she had inherited.
She whirled around and looked at Chance as the Pokémon seemed to be having... a moment. Something weird. Her golden/crimson eyes flashed to Austin and she felt something stir in her chest when she noticed how much more uneasy his expression had become. But she didn't show it, of course. She couldn't.

Growling loudly, a rugged Granbull lumbered toward them from behind. The normal type bared its teeth at them and its paws balled into tight fists.
Chance's eyes widened, and Austin stepped backward, suddenly becoming very small. Chance took half a step in front of the younger eeveelution. He was cursing up a storm in his head; it wasn't hard to tell that the three of them wouldn't get out of a fight with this guy without some injuries, and he didn't know the area well enough to teleport them to safety.

Chris whirled around, quickly getting on the offensive. She leaped in front of Austin, glancing beside her when she noticed Chance had done the same. But there was no time to bicker. The mutant bared her teeth at the roguish looking Normal type.
She wasn't one to talk her way out of things, so if this asshole wanted a fight, he was getting one. The canine was nervous though. She was pretty good at hiding it, but she couldn't deny the unease churning in her gut.

With a threatening snarl the the Granbull hurled himself toward her in a Take Down attack, its body taking up the entire width of the alley. Realizing there was no way to take on the attack directly and nowhere to run, he looked back at Austin. "[Listen to me, Austin, you're going to do exactly as I do, when I do it, or you're going to get crushed. Got it?]"
He stared back at Chance, dumbfounded, but compliant, and nodded. He had no plan for how to survive this, and if there was one thing Chance took seriously, it was keeping him safe. That didn't always mean that his plans made sense, but they were usually successful anyway. As Chance looked forward again Austin fixed his gaze on him, ready to mirror whatever it was he was about to do.

As he rumbled closer, she realised just how big this Pokémon was, and what a small space they were in to be fighting him. Maybe if she had a little more leg room, she could take him on, but the alleys were long and there wasn't any way to change the situation. She vaguely heard the chatter of the two eeveelutions behind her, eyes locked on the massive dog. Chris was a fighter, not a planner. She fought or she fainted, or worse. Mother taught her to never run away.
When he started to charge at her, despite everything, Chris charged back. She began to charge a Flamethrower when she misjudged her timing. She tried to leap away but the Granbull's attack caught her leg, messing her up and sending her crashing to the ground. She was stunned for a few seconds, but quickly got back on her feet and continued to try to get his attention. To lead him away from Austin (and Chance) and all that.

A moment before Chris charged at the wrecking ball of an attacker, Chance did. He raced toward the Granbull, closing the distance between them in a heartbeat, and at the last moment took a flying leap over the Pokémon. He cleared just enough that a kick off its form landed him clear on the other side, and he looked back to make sure the same was true for Austin. The Umbreon had followed him as instructed, and albeit a bit more clumsily, he managed to make it safely to the other side of the Granbull, staggering to stay on his paws, and he whipped around. "[Chris!?]" His voice cracked as he saw that his friend hadn't followed them. He looked at Chance, who had noticed the Houndyena's absence a moment earlier. She hadn't been his concern, figuring that she had something figured our anyway and wouldn't want to follow his lead.
The Granbull crashed into the wall and spun around, showing no signs of the recoil damage it had to have sustained. With an angry snort it bared its teeth, now buzzing with electricity, and its eyes locked on Chris. It started toward her, teeth bared and electricity sparking from its teeth.

The Houndyena had her upper torso lowered, crawling along the ground with her fur bristling and teeth bared. She heard the call behind her and flicked her ear, not daring to look away from the big purple Pokémon for an instant. When she saw the lightning twining around his fangs, she let hers heat up like irons, glowing with a brilliant fiery colour. When he tried closing in on her, she slipped under his jaws and bit his stomach. But it didn't phase him as much as she'd hoped. He grabbed her with his paw and flung her away, back hitting the wall.
Breath knocked out of her, it again took her a few seconds to get to her paws. She realised fights at the ranch were much more tame than this... she was strong in her ranch, working on becoming one of the strongest, but this Granbull... Who knew what he wanted to do with her? No one had the intent to kill on the ranch.
"[Go!]" she barked at the other two, though kept circling the bigger canine.

"[Austin, go,]" Chance said sternly as the gem on his forehead started glowing. He hit the Granbull with a wave of Confusion.
The thug let out a howl of rage and grabbed his head. He looked around wildly, unable to tell which Pokémon was attacking him, but as Chance hit him again with a psychic attack he staggered into the wall.
Before Chance could stop him Austin shot past him, taking the opportunity to hit the Granbull with a Pursuit attack. He hit the Granbull in the head, causing a critical hit that knocked it into the wall. With an angry roar he took a blind swipe through the air, slamming Austin off his paws and sending him sprawling across the alley and into the wall.
