Head spinning and hind legs weak, Chance found an inconspicuous spot to collapse. He needed to sit down and focus for a minute, think without having to work his legs. Lying down between a pile of trash and a dirty stoop, he closed his eyes and tried to concentrate. He thought maybe even with a headache he could hone in, or just get a random vision, but upon trying just that, he got nowhere. He wasn't surprised. Since Austin evolved he had become a grey area in Chance's third eye. Fucking dark types...
It was nearly dark when he opened his eyes again. Surprised by dimness, he was hesitant to start moving again. But his headache was fading, and he had to find his friend. He headed down the ally again, ears perked, eyes squinting into the darkness. He didn't dare make a sound for fear of getting someone's attention, so he hoped the Umbeon wouldn't blend into the walls if he passed him. Then again, how as anyone going to miss him mulling around? An long-haired teenaged Espeon with a deformed orb wasn't exactly going to blend in on the Ghetto.
The darkness descended far more quickly than he anticipated, and soon he was practically walking blind. Guided only by the occasional glint of a street light on a sidewalk, he continued to walk, hoping he wasn't going in circles or distancing himself from his goal. But things were starting to look more threatening: night Pokémon were emerging from their hideouts, humans were running around up to no good, and everything took on a dangerous edge in the near blackness.

Solitaire, on the other hand, carried himself with ease. He knew these alley ways like the back of his paw. Even if he had gotten into a few scraps in the slums, he liked to think of himself as something of a celebrity in these parts. Just because he made himself known in the area. He wasn't really respected or admired as celebrities went.
Being a Dark Type, and also adjusting to life after living after the sun fell, he had pretty keen vision in the darkness. He didn't have much of a target in where he was walking, but unlike most Pokémon, he wasn't afraid to wander. Plus, it wasn't like he was alone. Well, you were never alone this deep into the slum, but he had enjoyable company with him.
Suddenly, the Houndoom noticed a strange smell and raised his brows. "[Oooh,]" he said with interest, looking at Nikki like a child who'd been offered candy. He loved strangers.

Nikki tilted her head to the side at her companion's excited coo. She had caught the scent a while back; she had always had a keener nose than Solitaire, but given that he was so proud, she didn't flaunt it. Besides, it was cute to watch him get so excited about it. "[Let's check it out,]" she said, as if the suggestion was a grand new idea. She allowed him to take a lead, as usual. Letting him chase muses was a lot easier since she had evolved; longer legs meant it was easier to keep up.

The arrowhead on his tail flicked back-and-forth in excitement. He may have evolved, but he'd always be the same mischievous Solitaire he had been as a Houndour. Maybe a little more proud because of his new, sleeker form, but still easily entertained.
He nodded his head at her and began to tread forward, noticing the scruffy Espeon coming up in the distance. "[Owhh,]" he said, narrowing and shaking his head. "[Not a good place for a Psychic Type to be. Maan, tough luck, yeah?]" He glanced back at the Mightyena with a grin before walking forward and clearing his throat, announcing his presence.

"[What sad place for a little guy like that,]" Nikki chuckled softly, gliding after him contentedly.
The sound made Chance spin around, his back arched and fur on end. He let our a threatening growl and his eyes and orbs flashed, but still fatigued from his earlier endeavor, he couoldn't keep the glow alive.
A high-pitched squeak escaped Nikki's mouth as she tried to stifle a laugh. It was a good try, but the Espeon was obviously tired, weak, and out of his element, and she just found it hilarious that he even stood his ground. Impressive... Stupid, compulsive. But hilarious.

Solitaire faked being startled, craning his head back as the Espeon displayed his little show. He turned his ginger muzzle to Nikki and couldn't even repress his chuckle, nor did he even try to. "[Whoaaa, slow down, killer.]" The Dark/Fire canine couldn't help himself.
This Espeon seemed to have a few distinguishing features, such as its longer fur and funny shaped orb, which flashed briskly when the 'Eon tried to ready himself for battle. So Solitaire knew he hadn't seen him before.
"[Approaching Pokes' like that is going to get you killed, buddy,]" he said, tone light for the words he said, as he trotted closer to the eeveelution and plopped his rump down. "[Well, unless you're me.]"

Seeing that these Pokémon weren't about to jump him, Chance relaxed a little, allowing his fur to lie flat. He eyed the two warily, still on guard, but it was painfully obvious to him that if these two did decide to attack him, there wasn't much he could do.
"[Awww, look at him, he's just a kid,]" Nikki cooed, walking a circle around the stranger to survey him from all sides. "[And look at that fur. It's not ratty enough for him to be living the streets. You're some trainer's designer pet, aren't you, lightweight? What're you doing around here, looking for an adventure?]"
The look of a bruised ego on the Espeon's face made her laugh. She hadn't meant to make fun of him; she was just making an observation. She had always been able to pick out a poke out of place pretty easy, and she was a master at profiling. She couldn't help that it annoyed some.

As painfully obvious as it was to Chance, it was to Solitaire. Lucky for the Espeon, Sol had no intentions of hurting the Psychic type unless he gave him one. He didn't know this Pokémon and he didn't necessarily trust him; his reasons for approaching were more trust of himself and his capabilities and advantage. He was a leader, and wasn't as innocent as he displayed himself. Not that this was running through his mind all the time -- after all, he'd approached and led Nikki with him to chat with this Pokémon without even analyzing the situation; only for entertainment.
"[Not matted, but pretty long for an Espeon!]" the Houndoom commented, nudging the Espeon with his shoulder as if he were an old friend. "[Your mom or dad a Furfrou?]" He howled in laughter at his own comment -- he had only seen the Furfrou species once or twice around Relebrity since they were pretty rare to find in the wild out of Kalos... which he only knew by making conversation with them.
He watched Nikki as she spoke, occasionally glancing at the lighter furred Pokémon, not feeling threatened by him at all. The canine lifted a paw to suppress a snort when his friend butchered the Eeveelution's pride, as was evident on his expression.

Nikki couldn't help but laugh, but it was only at the dumbness of Solitaire's joke. He didn't make a lot of good ones, but he was always so proud of himself when he did. That was what was so funny. "[So what's got you on the rough side of town, featherweight?]"
"[I'm looking for my friend,]" he replied cautiously, his gaze shifting from one canine to the other.

The Houndoom lit up when his friend giggled and looked to the Espeon as if he'd find him rolling on the ground as well. But he wasn't. His loss.
"[Oh, the notorious friend hunt.]" Solitaire shivered, wiggling his brows. He stretched out and rolled his shoulders, flicking his tail in the air. "[You guys picked a nice place to get separated,]" he nodded approvingly, as if he genuinely considered it an intelligent idea. He laid down on the ground, crossing his forepaws, silver bangles jingling. "[So, alright. What's his or her species, name, gender...]" he mused, "[You know, so we can identify the body once we find it.]"

Nikki reveled in the Espeon's wide-eyed look of fear at Solitaire's joke. She cackled like a hyena and and cuffed Solitaire's shoulder lightly. "[You're such a dick!]" With a sigh she looked back at the Espeon. "[Your friend's probably not dead. Well, he could be, I don't know. Why don't you just tell us what he looks like.]"
Realizing the folly of his fright Chance relaxed a little bit, but his long tail unconsciously ticked like fast-paced metronome. "[He's an Umbreon, about this high... Shaggy little guy with green eyes.]"
"[Hmm... Haven't seen anyone like that before,]" she murmured. She looked at Solitaire. "[But there are a couple Umbreons mulling around.]"

Solitaire's goofy smile only widened when the Mightyena cuffed him, and he turned back to the Espeon. "[Scruffy? Is he your brother?]" he inquired, half-serious. Well, the fact that the stranger had referred to him as his friend probably meant not, for even as an only child, if Solitaire was looking for a brother or sister he would definitely let the world know and make them help him find him/her. But the question lingered and he couldn't take it back -- it was maybe half a joke anyway.
"[Green eyes?]" the Houndoom repeated, cocking his head. "[Weird.]"
He got up and looked at Nikki. "[Have you seen any lately, m'dear? Particularly of the scruffy, green-eyed kind?]"

"[Hmm. Nope. But I haven't been looking,]" she replied with a shrug, tossing her head to readjust her floppy ear. "[Sorry, featherweight. Umbreons aren't on my radar. But I bet a cute one with green eyes would catch my attention.]" She pretended to look off dazedly, hoping to get a reaction out of Solitaire.
Chance's face fell, his long ears drooping considerably.

And get a reaction she did. Sol himself was guilty of being a flirt with various females, but he didn't like when Nikki did it, no sir. It was the epitome of hypocrisy, but being a flirt was a second nature to him, or so he justified it. But no matter the ogling and honeyed words, Nikki was his number one. He just hadn't come to terms with it yet, "against" settling down as he was. Well, it was more that the idea just hadn't popped to mind yet.
Sol was an antonym for subtlety though. In a swift movement, he barreled her over, cupping his forepaws under her head so it didn't hit the concrete. He was a do now, think later, so after pouncing her, he didn't really know what to say. So instead, he looked back at the Espeon while continuing to lay on his friend, face as serious as it could be. "[So yeah. Details, bro, do you know how big this place is?]"

Nikki let out a surprised yelp as she was tackled to the ground, flopping on her back, but not without a big black paw to cushion her head. She blinked, looking at the Espeon upside down. It wasn't even worth saying something over. She got her reaction. It was as childish and harmless as anything Solitaire did to her. Besides, he was warm and it was getting chilly. So she could bare to have him lying across her.
Chance watched the two with a blank expression. For a single instant he thought the Houndoom was going to attack his companion, but now the way they were just confused him. If he wasn't so intimidated by them, he might have asked what the hell was wrong with them. "[We... just came in from... somewhere in that direction,]" he muttered, pointing with his tail in the general direction they had started in. "[I'm sorry. I'm lost. I can't do much better than that.]"
