Angelo bit on lip as EV turned away. No, I didn't mean it like that! I'm sorry! He didn't like when she had her back to him. It usually didn't mean anything good. He sighed and mimicked her actions, turning his back to her. He closed his eyes and settled himself into a restless doze. He could forget about good dreams tonight.

EV woke the next morning, and the first thing that struck her was that somebody's fur was in her nose. She blinked, lifting her head, and the fur rose on her shoulders. One of her front legs was draped across Angelo's sleeping form, and her head had been snuggled in her scruff.
"...What are you doing?"
Her head shot up, and to her horror she was face to face with Chance. He was staring at her with big, confused eyes, his head tilted slightly to the right. Arceus only knew how long he had been standing there.
She quickly scrambled away from the Umbreon, eying him warily as she sat up, flustered. "Nothing," she hissed to the little Eevee, turning to him quickly.
Chance blinked. "It didn't look like nothing..."

The Umbreon blinked his eyes open as he heard voiced around him. Half-awake, the sleepy Pokémon turned to EV. ("Is something wrong?") He was only sleep-talking with little-to-no awareness about what was actually going.

"No," she huffed, looking at the Umbreon uneasily. She could feel her face warming up, and she turned away from him sharply.
Chance's long tail swished, and he tilted his head, confused. The little Eevee had no idea what was going on, or why it had made Vivian so flustered.

("Okay, then,") the Umbreon yawned, settling back down to resume his nap. It wasn't like he'd even technically woken up, though.
Ellie stirred in her bed, rubbing her eyes. As she awoke, she was surprised to see Vivian on her bed and wondered what had driven the mix to suck it up and trust her for the night to be able to sleep by her feet. She wasn't going to complain -- it appeared she hadn't shredded any more furniture, either.

EV jumped as Ellie woke up, her ears lowering. She laid down where she stood. She knew Ellie meant her no harm, at least no harm that she had warranted, but she could not help feeling a little nervous of the girl, especially when she had startled her.

Ellie blinked at Vivian as she flattened her ears and laid back down. She reached down to pet her head comfortingly but somehow recalled that not even Note could really get her hands on her. Instead, she softened her clouded eyes and hushed in a sweet voice, "Don't worry, girl. No one's going to hurt you here."

EV lowered her head to the bed, gazing up at the girl with wary, but not untrusting eyes. Despite the other thoughts floating through her head, it did occur to her that Ellie looked pretty sick, and that kind of bothered her. From what she had seen, humans didn't really handle sickness as well as Pokémon.
Chance sat where he was, looking from Ellie to EV. Of course he could not understand what the human was saying, but he enjoyed the tone of her voice. It was nice and soft. The smell of sickness on her kept him at bay though, and like EV he knew that she was sick.

Ellie noticed the wariness in Vivian's gaze and slumped back on the bed, resting her head on the pillow. How was she supposed to get better? She looked over at her futon but was surprised when Chance, Tunes' Eevee, was right in her face, on her bed, glancing between herself and the Flareon mix. She sighed and closed her eyes. She just wanted to get better. Maybe then she could stand up to Team Rocket and try to reclaim Goldenrod City. She let out a little 'heh' at her daydreams. Becoming the town hero seemed like the dream of a little girl.

Tunes stirred, and slowly rolled over. She stretched and sat up. "Morning," she said softly, turning to Ellie. She saw Chance and Vivian on the bed, and she blinked. "They aren't bothering you, are they?"

"Not at all," the blonde grinned sheepishly, holding out her hand curiously towards Chance. Was he like Vivian? Did he not enjoyed human touch? She wanted to ask Tunes, but it took too much effort to even open her mouth anymore. Her sickness was getting out of hand but the only thing that Ellie could hope for was that it wasn't contagious so she wouldn't get the younger Trainer sick, too.

Chance looked at her hand apprehensively, but then slowly came forward and pushed his head into it. His tail wagged weakly. She may be sick, but it was hard for him to give up attention.
EV stared at him blankly. Normally, she probably would have said something sarcastic, but seeing as he had dirt on her now, whether he knew it or not, she just kept her mouth shut.

Ellie gave the Eevee a weak smile, scratching behind his large ears. "You're a sweet little guy, aren't you?" she cooed, her heart swelling as he began to wag his tail. She remember Angelo had been like this when he was an Eevee. Hopefully this little guy wouldn't have such a dramatic change in behavior like Angie had. But then thinking about last night and how he'd comforted her... not only that, but risking his life by going out and getting food for them... maybe he was the same little Eevee on the inside.

Tunes smiled, seeing the affect that Chance was bringing on Ellie. She slowly stood and looked back on the futon. Lemondrop was still curled up, asleep. She looked like a plushie. She turned back to Ellie, and her smile slowly disappeared. "Ellie, I'm going to do something for you. For this whole town. Nobody deserves to live like this."

Ellie's gaze was slowly dragged from the cute Eevee to where the Trainer stood, an aura of determination surrounding her. The blond's smile faded and concern was embedded on her features. "You can't," the older girl finally said, her voice hoarse and raspy. "Team Rocket isn't as stupid as they were before. You can't fight them with Pokémon like these; no offense, and there's nothing else we can do," she grunted, a fit of coughs wheezing through her body. The more she thought about the situation, the more her hope for ever fixing it faded.
