Angelo's crimson eyes scanned the ranch like a machine in search of his daughter. With the moon rising, the ranch was beginning to look more and more barren as Pokémon retreated into the barns or curled by their families by the far end of the field. And yet there was no scampering little 'vee in sight.
As he reached the corner of the fence, he begin to poke his head around. What were the odds that their little Winter might have...
The Umbreon lifted his head when movement struck his peripheral vision. He lifted his pointed muzzle and narrowed his eyes. There was something moving in the forest...
"Winter?" he called, hopeful. A dad on a mission, without knowing what or who it was, he climbed over the fence and started in a trot towards the blurry shape in the distance.

Entei was not so inclined to enter domestic spaces. Being recognized by Pokémon wasn't generally a problem; being seen by humans was. He had never been caught, and never truly defeated, but it was always a hassle to put up the charade. In older days, trainers did not bother to try to catch legendaries. Such a deed would be sacrilege. But in these secular times... well, nothing was over the line.
From where he stood on the other end of the flower patch he watched the goings on of the ranch. His gaze finally landed on an Umbreon, clearly in search of something. For a moment, their eyes met, although Entei did not believe that the Umbreon knew it. And then he was moving again. He had not initially realized that the fence around the site was only for show until the Umbreon appeared on the other side.
The creature seemed willing to come to him, and so he let him. The fire type sat where he was among the flowers and watched the Umbreon approach.

As the foliage of the forest obstructed his view, the Umbreon picked up his pace, so that the Pokémon couldn't get away. If it was Winter, great, he could pick her up and go home and tell her not to cross the fence again. If it was some other Pokémon, something hostile... well... then he could just chase it away from the ranch, protect Ellie and Note's Pokémon from potential harm. Either way, his paws were taking him to it.
He rounded the bend, leaping out from the small patch of trees, only to see a regal beast with thick, brown fur, clad in armor sitting among the flowers. His jaw dropped slightly, and he arched his back defensively. This guy was huge.

Entei couldn't help but be vastly underwhelmed by the black canine's reaction. At least it wasn't hostile. Defensive, but not violent. "Your fence is for show," he noted, nodding to the white border of the ranch. Perhaps not the best conversation starter. Even when he was practiced at socializing, he was still rusty.

"What?"
The Umbreon sat up, brows furrowed. He looked over his shoulder at the fence in the distance, then turned back to the legendary.
"I mean, I guess?" With Pokémon who could fly, spit acid, or seismic toss, yeah, a little picket fence was really no grueling barrier. It was more like something the Pokémon of the ranch respected as a border, or a safe zone. Inside the surrounding white planks of wood, there was food, family, and love. Like a scentless scent marker. The ranch was their territory, just as the ferals established in the wild.
Angelo shook his head. "Who are you?"

The fire dog's eyes gleamed incredulously. Well, there was one in every clan. "I am Entei."

"Entei..." Angelo repeated, his red eyes rounded. Traveling with Ellie, he'd heard a lot of talk about the three legendary beasts, and how badly she wanted to see them.
Part of him felt inclined to go and fetch her, or have some five-toed Pokémon grab a camera, but besides being glued to the spot, his daughter was still missing. That was a more pressing concern than giving his owner a souvenir, he felt.
He cleared his throat and offered a shaky sigh, trying to fix his posture. "Have you seen my daughter?" It felt worth asking, if she couldn't be found on the ranch. "She's about, uh... yea high. An Eevee."

Well, that had been easy. He absolutely loved cosmic coincidences, for a lack of a better term for them, which made things easier for him. They made him feel like his legendary status was being honored. And there were no hoops to jump through for this one. The simple-minded Umbreon had gotten right to the point, and no more searching was to be done. "Yes," he replied to the father, with a stoic nod. "I have."

Angelo didn't hesitate. Within a heartbeat after hearing Entei's confirmation, the Umbreon's forepaws were pressed firmly against the beast's chest, and his red eyes were focused and adamant.
"Then you be a good dog and take me to her."
How could Entei just nonchalantly tell him he knew the whereabouts of his few-month-old daughter, and his next immediate action was not to show him where? Granted, Angelo didn't give the beast a whole lot of time to react, but Arceus, if Winter was hurt... Where the hell was his daughter? What state was she in? Why had this big cat-dog seen her; just where had his little pumpkin rolled off to?

Entei bristled in surprise and recoiled from the Umbreon, although there was far more surprise in his unbridled expression than indignation. He lifted his paw, and with a slow motion pushed it against Angelo's chest and pushed the canine onto his back; he was pinned only by the paw's weight, as none of the fire beast's muscle bore down on him. Nonetheless, the implication was there: behave or be put in your place.
"She is safe, in a village through the forest," he explained calmly.

Angelo stared defiantly as he was pushed to the ground. He was just a desperate father who wanted to find his daughter, did this dumb animal have no heart?
"Why is she there?" he demanded with a huff, tail-tip swaying irritably. "She's only a few months old, she shouldn't be anywhere that isn't home right now."

"I did not take her from her home," Entei pointed out, his tone not bereft of an accusation.

"Then how did she get there, and how do you know?"
The Umbreon made no move to wriggle out from the Entei's grip, but tried to make it very clear that it did not matter if he was belly up or the king of the mountain, he was going to see his daughter.

"She needed to be somewhere safe. I took her to the village." What did this creature expect him to say? He was sure he hadn't done anything wrong. It certainly wasn't his fault that the child hand wandered away from home. But if her mother was as narrow-minded as her father, then perhaps it wasn't so ludicrous a scenario. He had lived long enough to know that devotion was not the only necessity for a safe home, and that was all he was seeing with this creature. He had yet to be convinced that her home was a proper alternative to the village.

"Safe from what?" Angelo blinked, his heart thumping. Had his baby girl been in danger? Arceus, what had Austin and Chance been doing that was so damn important that Winter was off fighting evil penguins somewhere? Or, hell... even he could have kept a better eye out...
He slumped with a sigh, his ears pinned back against his skull, brushing against the grass. "Is she alright? She's okay? Why won't you let me see my daughter?"
