Elliot and Sarge came to a gentle stop in the sleepy town of New Bark. Elliot lowered himself to the ground for the two younger children, and Chelle slipped off his shoulder, stumbled, and fell. Her legs felt like jelly after so long on the Charizard's back. With a sigh she picked herself up and dusted herself off.
Looking around this foreign town, it occurred to her that perhaps she was not half as prepared for this journey as she thought she had been. She had never been so far away from home, with or without a parent. She had not the slightest idea of how a journey went. Feeling very helpless, she looked back at Roy, and as soon as he was off Elliot's back she gripped his hand.

Roy slipped off of Elliot after Chelle was down, and though his knees buckled, he was able to keep his bum off the ground. He reached over to help her to her feet, and once she was up, she quickly took his hand. The same kind of feeling was churning through Roy's gut, but when he looked at his older sister, sliding off of Sarge's back with ease, he noted how ready she looked.
As he'd heard it, Eliza had been around quite a bit in her young age. It was with their father, but at least she'd been far from the ranch for a while.
The eldest of the Curtis' siblings patted the Charizard gratefully on his head. "Thanks, Sergeant." She leaned in and gave him a peck on the nose, and the Charizard huffed, but made no notion to move away. She released Kitto from his Pokéball, and his dark eyes widened as soon as his paws were on the grass. The Charizard let out a roar before looking to Elliot and beginning to bat his large, blue wings.
Eliza looked up and waved at the orange dragon before turning to Roy and Chelle. This was their first time far out, and it was up to her to make sure they were comfortable. She walked over to the duo with Kitt at her heels. "So, what did Mom and Dad give you two?"

The breeze from Elliot's wings flapped the end of Chelle's bandana awkwardly over, and she smoothed it out and pulled the Pokéball out of her pocket. She turned it around in her hands before releasing her brother and looking up at him. "You first."
Eliza's confidence was quite comforting to the nine-year-old. She, too, was familiar with their sister's traveling with their father. But she had always regarded it as some sort of distant fictional existence Eliza had lived before she was born. It seemed much more concrete now. She clearly knew what she was doing.

Roy looked at his little sister tentatively before pulling the Pokéball from his belt. "Okay..." he agreed, both excited and a little scared.
Pressing the button, a flash of red light appeared, and a little blue Shinx presented itself with a loud mewl. "Whoa!" the little boy exclaimed, looking at the feline with rounded eyes.
Eliza slammed her fist against her palm. "That's why Tormund was away for a while! That's probably his kid."
Roy looked at her, surprised. So his Shinx was one of the Gym Team's offspring? Awesome!
The eldest crouched down and gave a look at the 'mon before turning back to her brother. "It's a girl. What do you want to name her?"
"A girl?" he repeated rhetorically. "Hmm..." While he thought on it, the Shinx looked around, familiarising herself with the humans and staring at them, slack-jawed. "I think I'm gonna call her... Blue."

Chelle smiled crookedly. The Pokémon was cute, but unimpressive; the ranch already had Shinx evolutions. She hoped hers was a little more original. She continued to run her fingers over the textured ball. "My turn?"
Of course, she knew that answer to that question. She held out the ball, and in a flash of red light a little fluff-faced puppy appeared. The Lillipup looked around curiously before spotting the youngest Curtis, and he let out an excited "Boof!" and bounced up and down. Chelle stared at the little Pokémon, dumbfounded. She had never seen this Pokémon before. "What is it?"

Eliza and Roy looked at the Pokémon curiously. "I'm... not sure," the eldest responded, taking a double-take around the town. She walked up to the sign they had arrived in front of, and noticed a Pokémon Laboratory was nearby. She'd passed the one in Kantō, but never had a reason to go in. "We can go in and ask..." she paused, squinting her eyes to read the small text beneath it, "Professor Elm."
Kitto looked at the Lillipup and Shinx curiously. He was acquainted with the Shinx's father, Tormund, but barely. He usually hanged around his family or Chris. The puppy was a mystery to him, though. "(Hi there,)" he yipped as his trainer started to move towards the Pokémon Laboratory.

Chelle walked to the sign and stared at it curiously. "I guess so. Let's do that," she murmured. She was just completely at a loss. She had been prepared to see a Pokémon she had heard of, a species on the ranch or on his mother's team-- even a Pokémon she even knew already. But this... she had never seen anything like it. She wanted to know what it was.
The puppy looked toward Kitto as he spoke, and he wagged his tail in greeting, but as soon as Chelle started away he turned and trailed after her. He stopped by her feet and sat up. When Chelle did not notice him he let out a little bark, and he wiggled his front paws in the air. "(It's you! Look! It's you!)"
Chelle looked down at the little Pokémon bemusedly. Slowly, she stooped and picked him up. He was positively shaking with joy, he all but climbed down her shirt trying to get closer to her. Chelle patted his head. His darker fur was wiry, but hate fur around his face was very soft. And he was cute. She wasn't sure what he was, but he wasn't too bad, for a surprise first Pokémon.

"Hello?" Eliza called out quietly upon pushing open the lab doors. The place was buzzing with the quiet muttering of what appeared to be scientists, accompanied by the soft hum of several machines. Kitto, unnerved by all of the technology, leapt onto the top of Liz's backpack, causing her to jostle backwards a bit. Once she steadied herself, and Kitto had his forepaws on her shoulder protectively, she wandered in further.
Glancing back, she noticed Roy and Chelle following tentatively. Roy's new Shinx, Blue, was so unused to the surroundings that she was all but slinking under her new trainer, just to stay close. She didn't know these humans well, but they emitted a friendly energy, and all else was utterly unknown to her.
"Hello!" A man in a lab coat moved away from his machine, adjusting his glasses and approaching the three children. "Who might you be?"
"Well... we're, uh... Eleanor Surge's kids. From Kantō." She felt safer, for some reason, using their surname than introducing them one-by-one. In the past, that kind of introduction seemed to get her out a few hot spots... The scientist's interest was piqued. "My little sister just got a new Pokémon and we're not quite sure what it is," Eliza gestured to the wiry-haired pup in her sister's arms.

Chelle shifted from foot to foot, and she shuffled forward to show her still energetically affectionate little puppy Pokémon. Lillipup lifted his head from the girl's shoulder to look up at the scientist, and his tail wagged in greeting. He settled in the girl's arms and tilted his head to the side quizzically.

"Ah! Wow, a Pokémon from Unova!" the scientist exclaimed, reaching his hand out to let the little puppy sniff it.
"My dear, that's a Lillipup, the Puppy Pokémon. They're incredibly intelligent Pokémon, and see the hair around its face?" The man excitedly gestured to the furry mask the canine wore, "This actually acts as a radar, letting it catch subtle changes in its surroundings."
After staring at the Pokémon for various heartbeats longer, the scientist looked at the three children excitedly. "Oh, but you know, I bet the Professor would love to see it. Would you mind? I believe he could give you something in return."
"Professor Elm?" Eliza piped up, tilting her own head slightly, to which the tall man nodded vehemently. "Sure."

"Neat," Chelle murmured. A Pokémon from another region! That was unexpected. She had only heard about Unova vaguely. So this little Pokémon really was special. Maybe even rare?
She perked up again at the scientist's proposition. "What would he give?" she inquired. It wasn't often that she got excited about gifts, but then again, in her experience, gifts had been predictable. But someone new, in a new region, about a new Pokémon? That's a whole lot she didn't know.
