"I will happily oblige if you would be so kind as to take a step away from that fellow," he replied evenly, the singsongy quality absent due to the tension. "I will battle you, give you what you want... but you must leave my comrade alone."

["Don't rush me,"] the Leafeon spat back, curling her toes in frustration and causing a quiet whine to escape the Umbreon, who was steadily bleeding out. ["I have to figure out what I want first."] She kept an alarmingly steady gaze on the lizard, burnt tail swaying behind her. After a moment of contemplating, her brown eyes glistened and her pupils dilated. There was another something tickling her brain... another familiar. ["What do you have to offer, big guy, that's better than my brother?"] She patted the few scrapes she had made on his temple almost gently.

Elliot opened his mouth to speak, but before he could a soft voice came from behind him. The charizard stiffened, and his limbs seemed to numb with dread.
"Dad?"
Angelo was standing several paces back glowing dimly in the moonlight. His green glowing eyes were wide as saucers as he stared at his broken father and the leafeon that stood over him.

Fear flooded Angelo's veins as he registered the filmy voice of his son, but just barely. In an instinctual attempt to warn his son to stay away, the Umbreon had cocked his head to see better, and only further tore his wound in the process. A hair-curling gurgling noise expelled from his maw, along with droplets of blood.
Above him, the Leafeon only grinned. ["Dad! Did he say dad!"] she chirped, almost childlike, exchanging glances between the two Umbreons. ["Oh, Austin, you never told me you had a kid! Though, I mean, we haven't talked in years, have we?"] She sat down on the black Pokémon's flank, rolling her eyes towards her crown as if taking a moment to collect herself. ["You know, I hardly even recognised you... Clearly. The blood helped stimulate some senses, though,"] she wheezed, slapping her paw down on the grass next to him. ["Guess I can still beat you then, eh? Some things never change."]
The Umbreon cringed as the Leafeon idled, giggling to herself. He didn't know what to think right now, and quite frankly, it took too much effort; the kind of energy and focus that was quite literally draining from his neck. She had to be confused... well... actually, that much was obvious, but... the last he'd seen either of his sisters was the last time he'd seen his own mother. If this was Cora or Mia... Great Arceus, what was happening?

The fur on the younger umbreon's spine bristled in fright, and he took half a step forward. "Get away from him!" he snapped, desperate, and his voice cracked. "Let go of my dad!"
"Go fetch your mother," Elliot told him, firm but empathetic. "I am here, Austin. Go get her."
Austin shifted on his feet anxiously, unsure whether to spring forward and run away. Finally, choosing to trust the Charizard that had never led him wrong before, he dashed away.
"Ma!" he cried, stumbling to a halt in front of his mother. "Dad is hurt, some leafeon--"
Instead of slowing down as he approached, the disparity in his voice only made her speed up. She raced past her son at full speed, the energy around her turning dark and hot. With a monstrous snarl she slammed into Koni like a bullet, slamming her off Angelo, and she stood over him as she watched Koni fall.
Note lost sight of the mutant as when she disappeared in front of Elliot, who gave a visible start at the same time. "What the hell," he muttered, horribly worried now. As Austin spun around and raced toward Elliot Note picked up his pace, running as fast as he could to catch up.

Koni didn't have time to react as a familiar red blur sent her spiraling towards the fence. Too exhausted from their brief encounter earlier, singed fur and all, the Leafeon could do nothing to brace herself as she collided into the white picket. There was a splintering snap in her neck, and then nothing. The burnt Pokémon crumpled into the grass, brown eyes still faded and wide -- toothy smile stuck to her creamy muzzle.
As soon as the girl caught sight of the dark mass sprawled out in the grass beneath Vivian, a sharp gasp escaped her. No mind to the Leafeon that the red Flumbreon had just murdered, she got onto her knees, examining the gaping wound in her Umbreon's neck. "Note..." she started slowly, light eyes slowly widening as she grasped the all-too-familiar situation before her, "N-Note, I need Dr. Pretz! I need Dr. Pretz right now!" The girl turned to him quickly, staring at the blonde man pleadingly as she clasped the Pokémon's paw.

Vivian stood over the dead Leafeon, trembling like a leaf and breathing raggedly. Despite knowing that the creature was dead she could not make herself move, and she stood like a waiting cobra to strike as if she expected Koni to rise up again.
Recognizing the trance-like state Elliot moved toward her as carefully as he could. "Vivian." She did not respond, and he said more loudly, "Vivian, she is dead. She can't hurt anyone anymore." He paused for another moment, and then slowly reached out a claw and touched her shoulder. The touch seemed to cure her of her paralysis, and still breathing heavily she turned away and hurried toward Angelo. She came to a slow stop in front of him, and her eyes filled with dismay.
"Holy shit," Note murmured, his eyes widening at the sight of the mangled Umbreon. He turned and rushed back toward the house and dialed the phone. The vet was woken out of a sound sleep, and Note had to repeat his message three times before the doctor had enough information to be on his way.
