Backstory:
Akira was born the bastard daughter to a rich politician in the Galar region. He had her mother sent away to Turffield before she was born to avoid scandal. She spent the first five years of her life in peace before her mother died of illness. She spent the next five years living with her grandmother, who treated her with impolite indifference. Her grandmother was emotionally distant and only had bad things to say about her father, who she claimed broke her mother's heart, thus causing her death. She set out on her Pokémon journey the moment she was able with the sole purpose to get to her father in Hammerlocke, to confront him. She picked a Scorbunny. In the meantime she did the gym challenge, but was unremarkable. She much more preferred camping and helping other more serious trainers.
When she found her father, she was surprised to find that he was not the heartless bastard that her grandmother had painted him to be. Instead, he was overjoyed to see her, and claimed that he had been writing her mother since before she was born. To Akira's knowledge, her mother never received a single letter from him. She could deduce without much investigation that her grandmother had been intercepting the letters. Her father welcomed her into his home with his wife. Akira had to adjust to this new arrangement; both her father and her step mother were awkward, as no one knew how to treat anyone else, but even despite that there was a love that she had not known since her mother's death. She soon adjusted to this new life, and welcomed the birth of her baby half-sister and -brother, Kimberly and Malachi.
When her brother and sister were young and she was 15, they were kidnapped off the street. A citywide search was put out for them, but Akira, who had been the only witness to the crime, set out on a rescue mission on her own. This was against her parents' wishes; she had to sneak away with her team to do it. But she managed to track down the kidnappers. They had been kidnapped by child traffickers. However, her Pokémon team was too weak to win against her opponents, and she was captured as well. She bartered for her siblings' freedom, offering to stay and cooperate as their servant if her siblings and Pokémon were set free. The kidnappers agreed, and Kimberly, Malachi, and Akira's Pokémon were sent off. They were soon found and returned home.
The head of the child trafficking ring decided to keep Akira as a slave. She spent the next two years doing everything from helping to wrangle kids to cleaning his house. During that time, she befriended a stray Goomy that had escaped capture by the traffickers and lived in secret around their base. The two looked out for each other, often fighting off threats to one another. Goomy eventually evolved into Sligoo, which made its covert living situation very tricky. As a result, Akira tried to do more to help it. This often got her in trouble, which resulted in beatings and other punishments.
She eventually made her escape when Sligoo evolved into Goodra, and the two of them snuck and fought their way out of hiding. Their flight from their prison caught enough attention that the authorities got involved, and once Akira was reunited with her family, she helped to bring down the trafficking ring, which had infiltrated many parts of the Galar region. She was hailed as an anonymous hero, as her family never allowed her name or picture to be leaked to the public.
In her time away, her party Pokémon had gotten close to her siblings. Akira decided not to take them back. Eventually her brother and sister set off on their own Pokémon journeys with her old Pokémon. In the meantime, she decided that city life was not the right place for her. With her family's help, she bought a small house just outside of Turffield. There, she and Goodra, who she called Comfort, could make ends meet doing the simple things she loved. She stills stays in touch with her siblings, who know they have a place to stay with her, and with her parents, who check in on her often, although they almost never come to visit.

Comfort
Comfort was captured by the same traffickers who captured Akira, but much earlier. Although she escaped her cage, she could never find her way out of the base, and so she spent her Gooomy phase hiding in spaces she could slip her slippery body into. Staying out of harm's way was enough for her to evolve. But as a Sligoo she would not have been able to evade capture without Akira. She was immediately enamored by the girl, who she saw as vulnerable as her but much braver. Putting her trust in her, she promised herself that she would one day repay her kindness. That day came when Akira was attacked by her captors, and Comfort was able to evolve and save her. The two then escaped.
Comfort is not a fighter, but she would tear someone apart before she let any harm come to Akira. She is often overprotective because of her anxiety, and hates being separated from Akira. She is slow to trust adults, but loves children and Pokémon smaller than her. Her soft and caring nature is overridden when she's reminded of her time as a captive, which will make her violent and panicked. It is hard for her to come down from these fits until whatever she perceives as a threat is gone.
She loves doing anything with Akira, which usually involves gardening. She likes to greet people who come to the property, as much to be friendly as to know who is coming and going.
