Angelo's ear twitched as EV stopped in front of him, her mouth unmoving. The Umbreon mimicked her in complete silence, his eyes peering into hers. He attained his posture, making him as tall as the Umbreon/Flareon mix.

Finally EV gritted her teeth and sighed. "You don't make me not smile, Angelo." That was a start. She really was not sure what he wanted to hear, or what to say. The whole situation was bothering her, but she simply did not know what to say to make it better.

Angelo cocked a brow, his eyes rounded. ("What?") was all the Umbreon said. His expression was a mixture between not believing her and wanting her to go on. If he wasn't the reason she didn't smile, then why didn't she when he was around? Why was it that Chance had seen these smiles before and witnessed her more gentle side while he only nurtured the meaner, serious side of EV? Why?

EV looked down, staring at her paws as she went on. "You're not the reason I don't smile. That's it." What more did he want her to say? What exactly did he think, that he made her miserable? That couldn't be right... he knew that she preferred his company to just about everyone else's. Except maybe Chance. Was that what this was about? She didn't want to ask.

Angelo almost flinched but shook it off. He stared off into the ocean, unsure of how the hell he was supposed to respond. ("Then why don't you?") he suddenly asked, his words crisp and precise. He almost didn't want the answer.

Her brow furrowed as she tried to answer that. How could she tell the Umbreon that she different around him than she was Chance? Not less happy. Just different. Somehow that did not sound like something that would cheer him up. "Because... I didn't think I needed to." She slowly raised her eyes, looking at Angelo desperately. "I thought you knew I was happy with you."

Angelo glared at the ground, baring holes into the pavement. What was he supposed to say? Now he felt like a jerk. But she never seemed happy around him. She always seemed bored and wishing she could be somewhere else, but then again, why else would she stick around him? Angelo had only believed it was because all the other Pokémon were even worse. His red gazed flickered back up at her, unsure how he was supposed to respond.

She felt her face heat up as his eyes landed on her, and she glared at the ground. "Idiot..."
The word itself meant nothing at the moment, but insults and violence had always been her defense strategy. What else was she supposed to say? Did he want to hear something specific?

The Umbreon's ears flattened and his brows furrowed. But then, his shoulders sagged and he sighed. ("I'm just going to be blunt about this an apologize for overreacting. So, sorry,") he breathed quietly, shaking his head. All he wanted to do right now was sleep. The stress of the day had weighed down exhaustion on him heavily.

"Could you really not tell that I was happy?" She looked up suddenly, a bit hurt. How could he not tell? Did she really seem that miserable all the time? Her teammates had noticed the difference. Note had noticed the difference. Even Ellie had seemed to notice a little bit. Why had it been so hard for him to tell?

("Err... the feeling was neutral. I thought you only hung out with me because the other Pokémon are... well... other Pokémon.") He shrugged. He was at loss of what to say. He shuffled his paws nervously, his tail flicking from side to side like a cat.

Her ears flattened against her skull and she shook her head no. "Idiot," she said again, forcing herself not to pout.

("That's the second time you've said that. I get it,") he murmured, but his tone was softer than it had been that evening. He placed a gentle, hesitant, apologetic grin on his dark, ivory lips, staring at her with large, pitiful eyes. ("I'm sorry.")

EV looked away, and again she felt the heat returning to her face. "Are you going to come inside or just stay out here and get kidnapped?"

The Umbreon tilted his head, confused as he saw her look away. What was she doing? He'd been sure she would at least whack him over the head for his trouble. ("I choose safety,") he murmured, picking himself up and heading towards the door. He twisted it open and looked over his shoulder, waiting for the Eon mix to follow.
