"Wooow," Janice crooned. "That's great. I hope I get to go to other regions. But I think that's a way off. You've always wanted to go to Hoenn, haven't you, Damion?"
"I like the water," he agreed, nodding. It was such a shame that they hadn't seen the sea yet.
"(Boring,)" Malachi agreed, nodding sagely. "(Being out is the the fucking tops! There's a shitton to do out here. Me and the kids have been out here catching Pokémon, and in the cities, humans will just give you stuff for being cute. It's a hell of a gig.)"

Eliza smiled. "Yeah, Hoenn has some really neat native Pokémon, too... I think I really want to go to Unova the most, though."
("That sounds great!") Winter trilled, her pale eyes wide with interest and her short, pink tail flicking from side to side.
Dante sniffed. ("Food that ain't kibble doesn't sound bad.")

"I haven't heard a lot about other regions," Janice admitted. "Unova has a lot of big cities though, doesn't it?"
Malachi danced on his toes. "(It's the fucking best! And you run it all off when you keep moving. But the best is the Pokémon centers. They let you sleep in the blankets!)"

"Yeah. My grandpa's from there," Eliza explained, moving stray tresses of light hair over her shoulder. "He came over to Kantō though sometime before having my mom and my uncles. I think it would just be kind of neat to explore the place my ancestors came from."
("I wouldn't mind one of those right now,") Dante yawned, his head suddenly filled with thoughts of warm blankets and soft couches.

"Oh, I understand." She nodded. "My grandparents weren't from Johto, but I can't remember where they come from now... I know it's not here though." Janice had always wondered where her family was from, but she had to guess that it was far away, since she didn't see her features in a lot of people in the area. Damion, on the other hand, didn't share her exotic features. She smiled back at him, and seeing that his gaze was on the Pokémon, she gave his arm a little tug. "Where would you want to go?"
He thought about it a moment, green eyes following clouds instead of Pokémon. "I don't know. Alola, I think." With how little he talked, it seemed like an outlandish answer; the region of tropical dreams didn't seem like something to go along with his passive demeanor. But his answer was sincere and thought-out.
Malachi dipped his head in agreement, a spring still in his step. "(They're real nice. Those nurses, they know how to treat Pokémon. Trainers, too. Even runty little nobodies like my crew. No offense, Medusa.)"
The Ekans leaned her head back at them, tongue flicking. "(Of course,)" she replied, nonplussed.

"Alola sounds rad," Roy agreed enthusiastically, clenching his hands into fists excitedly. "You know, my friend went there on vacation once and he said there were Dugtrio cosplaying Eliza."
Eliza pursed her lips, but didn't retort. Shifting her narrowed blue eyes from her brother to the road ahead of them, she noticed she could see the beginning of rooftops. "Looks like we're nearly there," she stated, casting a glance over their little group.
("Well, that's good news.") Kitto was about sixteen years old, but his fighting experience was minimal. He very much so still considered himself a rookie - he was sure even Dante could outclass him, if the pup actually put in effort.
The lilac houndour glanced at the snake, amused. Malachi reminded him of someone, but he couldn't put his finger on whom.

Chelle giggled, adjusting her bandana.
Damion perked up, some light coming into his eyes. "I've seen pictuwes of theiw wegional Pokémon. They'we amazing." It was difficult for him to be comfortable speaking; his speech impediment was obvious and made him feel infantile. As he heard the words come out wrong he looked away, as if suddenly interested in the foliage growing along the trail.
Janice giggled as well, appreciating Roy's joke without having too much fun at Eliza's expense. She looked up as well, smiling at seeing the city. It wasn't their first time there, but they had been in the field all day. She was ready for a rest. It hadn't been a particularly productive day, but they'd been working, and they'd earned the rest.
"(Aaaand. Oof. It's been a hell of a long time since I done it, but running around those places at night? That's the fucking best,)" Malachi continued, feeling encouraged. "(There's all kinds of fun stuff in Pokémon centers. If you don't make a mess, they don't notice you messing. You just got to be back before the humans wake up.)" He winked.

Eliza smiled upon hearing Daimon's rhombacism. The girl had developed something of an endearment for speech impediments after Roy had started to learn to talk, and had a very clear lisp that her parents and teachers had curbed, in her opinion, much too soon. "Have you seen their vulpix?" she asked, beginning to get excited. While she had a clear focus on learning the Pokémon native to their continent, pictures of the white, snowy vulpix had not escaped her attention.
Winter's ears twitched. That sounded like just what the doctor ordered. ("I gotta say, Malachi, I wasn't all that excited for night to come, but this sounds like fun!")
Kitto, meanwhile, was growing quite nervous. Getting back before the humans woke up meant that they were doing something they weren't supposed to. He didn't want to do anything to get Eliza in trouble, nor Chelle or Roy for that matter. Imagine if they called their parents? The police? Or even the retired Lt. Surge? What if they no longer thought he was a suitable guardian?
The hybrid didn't open his mouth, but his nostrils flared as the potentially terrible outcomes consumed him.

"I love the Alola vulpix!" Damion exclaimed, his smile growing. "I want one."
Chelle peered up at the dark skinned ten curiously. He sounded odd to her, but she wasn't about to say as much. Was it an accent? It wasn't any she had ever heard before.
Malachi wiggled, his excitement growing. "(Oh, yeah. We'll have a time tonight.)"

"Me too," Eliza agreed vigorously, nodding in excitement.
It wasn't long before the group of kids set foot in the quaint little town of Cherrygrove. It's humble, wooden houses were few and far between, and it was overall underwhelming aside from the gentle lapping of the water from the beach.
With the sun setting and the sky swathed in pinks and oranges, the eldest of the Surge kids herded their little gang into the Pokémon Center.
Roy was pretty bummed about it, to say the least. His first day on his Pokémon adventure had been, aside from Wasabi's capture, pretty uninspiring. He side-eyed Eliza as the taller girl spoke to the nurse, though he was seated far enough away to not hear what was being exchanged. Eventually, however, he and the rest of the kids were summoned and escorted downstairs to a small room with beds. They didn't look particularly luxurious, and Roy suddenly craved the idea of camping outside under the sky, instead of an unused ol' basement.

Janice acted like the'd just been shown to a luxury suite. She dropped her bag at the foot of a bed and flopped onto it, effectively claiming it as her own. With a satisfied sigh she pulled the dirty purple scrunchy out of her hair and shook it out. Her straight brown-red locks splayed out around her head like an ember-encrusted halo. "What a day! Damion, do we have any muffins left?"
The teenager lumbered into the room and sat down on the bed beside his companion. He dug through his bag and tossed her a plastic-wrapped muffin bespeckled with berry pieces. He pulled out three more and set one aside. "Do you want one? They won't last much longew."
Janice gave him a befuddled side-glance, but she said nothing as she unwrapped her own muffin.
Chelle perked up, delighted at the offer of a snack. She reached for the muffin, but then thinking better of it, hesitated. Her gaze shifted to her sister, seeking permission. She didn't know why Eliza would say no, but this was the kind of thing her sister was around for, as far as she knew.
Malachi's nose was to the floor for their entire walk. He was on the prowl, but for what remained to be seen. Perhaps it was nothing at all; the thrill of a new place was reason enough to be inquisitive.

Eliza caught her sister's stare and smiled in approval. Reaching into her own bag, the blonde pulled out a packet of juice boxes she had miraculously not crushed. "They're a little warm," she warned sheepishly as she handed out the little drinks to her siblings and new friends.
Roy gladly accepted a muffin and a juice box, plopping onto the edge of a bed. Before he could dig in, however, he seemed to realise something and shot right back up in the same motion. Shuffling through his backpack, he pulled out some standard Pokémon kibble and some small, plastic bowls. The boy proceeded to pour the chow into the bowls and placed them by the Pokémon, but not before putting a few pieces of muffin in each bowl.
"Thanks, Roy," Eliza sighed when she noticed what he was doing, flopping down onto her bed. Day one and her body was already sore from sheer anxiety.
Winter was privy to Malachi, but easily distracted by the sound of kibble. It wasn't her favourite, but it was food, and she could smell the chunks of muffin.
Roy looked at Janice and Daimon. "Do you have food for those guys? I got enough if you don't."

The offer of juice and kibble quickly pacified any insecurities Janice may have had about sharing their muffins. She sat up, accepting a juice box with a smile. "Yeah, they eat a little of everything. Well, Malachi does. Medusa is picky."
Damion picked up a piece of kibble and offered it to his Pokémon, who was still coiled around his bicep. She flicked her tongue at it, and dissatisfied with what she found, turned away. Damion let Malachi lick it out of his hand. Then he pulled a bag of a different kind of kibble from his bag; it looked to have been mon-proofed, the container a type that was terrible to taste and complicated enough to open that most Pokémon couldn't pry it apart. He popped it open and set some on the floor below his bed, where Medusa could get to it before the other Pokémon.
"If he gets pushy, just give him a smack," Janice warned as Malachi nosed his way to a bowl. He clearly wasn't used to sharing; he pushed Winter and Dante out of the way, sloppily gobbling up kibble.
Chelle watched him, amused. That wasn't an uncommon sight at the ranch; when it became a problem, they'd simply gotten more bowls. That brought something to mind, and with a little "Oh!" she pulled out her newest Pokéball. With a click the ball came open and Wasabi materialized on the floor at her feet.
His new surroundings gave him enough of a start to break his bravado, if only for a moment. With a little huff he turned in an awkward circle, and upon finding nothing familiar he backed under the bed. He stopped abruptly, however, upon seeing the kibble, and perking up, bounced right up to Malachi's monopolized bowl. Giving the canine a bold headbutt, he stuffed his face in the bowl as well.
The houndour was surprised enough to draw back and stare at him. Wasabi happily ate from the bowl with just as much grace as his larger companion.
"(Get a load of this fat little fuck!)" He looked to Winter and Kitto, amused. "(Where'd you get him?)"

Winter huffed as she was moved aside, but accepted the challenge and with a toothy grin, began to chow down. She was only mildly startled as Malachi skidded backwards, lifting her face from the bowl and glancing between the houndour and the chikorita.
Dante wanted nothing to do with it, and quietly dragged his bowl some ways off to eat in peace, his back to the rest of the Pokémon.
("He startled some lady and her baby, so I beat him up,") the Sylveon trilled proudly, her nostrils flaring.

Wasabi looked up with a squeak. "(That's what you think!?)"
Malachi snorted with laughter. "(Yeah? That's a hoot! What's your name, fatass?)"
His face scrunched up, but he said nothing; he didn't know the answer to the question and he didn't have a retort prepared.
"(Be niccce, Malachi,)" Medusa chided, slithering out from under the bed. "(Mossst Pokémon don't like being called a fatassssss.)"
Wasabi bristled at the sight of the snake, taken aback. It had never occurred to him that Pokémon could look so different form the bi- and quadrupeds he had seen. The ekans paid him no attention to him while she curled into a neat pile. She flicked her tongue at Winter and Kitto; Dante clearly didn't want to be bothered, so she wasn't going to bother him. "(I am sssorry for upsssetting you before. My eyessight is not the besst and I did not sssee that you were with trainersss.)"
